Feature 504: Valley Ag Supply, Inc., Gayville & Spink, SD

Valley Ag Supply, Inc. was founded in 1999 by the late, Greg Pirak, and Tara Pirak, husband and wife. Located in rural Gayville, South Dakota, Valley Ag Supply, Inc., is a four-time borrower of the SBA 504 loan program. Each 504 project has included a combined financing package with CorTrust Bank in Yankton, South Dakota, and an SBA 504 loan through First District Development Company.

As an agricultural chemical and fertilizer retail facility, Valley Ag provides information, fertilizer, seed, crop protection products, and custom application for its ag customers. SBA loan proceeds for three of Valley Ag’s 504 projects were used to develop and expand storage space for seed and chemicals at the Gayville location, while the most recent 504 project involved the construction of a second location in nearby Spink, South Dakota. The company has been recognized for their work in the industry and for providing education regarding modern agricultural practices.

In 1999, it was merely Greg and Tara Pirak spraying 10,000 acres with gross sales of $300,000. Today, with multi-million dollar gross sales, the business has grown to 52 employees – 21 full-time, 17 part-time, and 14 full-time seasonal who work from April through August. Greg and Tara have worked tirelessly to ensure Valley Ag Supply is a successful business.

Tara admits Valley Ag would not be what it is today without the team of excellent employees she has surrounding her. There are employees on staff who have been with Valley Ag Supply for over 17 years. In fact, the first two hires are still employed with Valley Ag!

Since the unexpected passing of her husband, Greg Pirak, in 2018, Tara Pirak heads up the operation and oversees all aspects of the business. Valley Ag Supply continues to flourish as a woman-owned operation. Congratulations to Tara and the team at Valley Ag to over 20 years of service to the ag industry.
