With the support of First Bank & Trust in Brookings, South Dakota, and First District Development Company via the SBA 504 loan program, David Jacobson was able to convert from being a tenant to owner of the building he’s been operating his small businesses out of over the past five years.
The trust Chad Broksieck with First Bank & Trust backs Jacobson with has been earned and built upon over the five years since Jacobson first opened the doors to Bobcat of Brookings and Brookings Rent‐All. In 2009, when the economy was going through a time of hardship, Jacobson made a bold decision to break off from his family‐owned equipment manufacturer dealership to start his own Bobcat dealership.
Prior to this time, Jacobson’s family‐owned dealership, whose main focus was being an implement dealer, included being a Bobcat dealer for over 20 years. In 2008, the family dealership was forced to make a decision about what line of equipment they were going to continue to sell and the result was they could no longer be a Bobcat dealer. Knowing his family’s many loyal Bobcat customers in the area would need parts and service for their machines, David’s career as a business owner began.
Bobcat of Brookings was born on the need for parts and service. Today, Jacobson and his team of seven continue to fulfill that need, as well as offering a full line of new and used Bobcat equipment for sale. They carry compact skid‐steer loaders, excavators, utility vehicles, track loaders, and much, much more, along with Bobcat accessories and attachments. In addition, Bobcat of Brookings has a well stocked parts department and full service shop with factory trained technicians, who are experts at servicing all the Bobcat equipment sold through the store.
This newly purchased building is also home to Brookings Rent‐All, which Jacobson owns and operates. Brookings Rent‐All offers a wide selection of rental products, from carpet and floor cleaning products to power tools, lawn and garden products to pumps and generators. In addition to equipment used by home owners, they also carry a full line of Bobcat equipment and attachments for rent.
As the world renowned Bobcat brand markets itself as standing for “proven dependability and rugged durability. Bobcat’s tough, versatile and agile equipment, and its time‐tested reliability, have earned the company its reputation as ‘One Tough Animal’.” With Jacobson’s tenacity to start the business at a not so opportune time and make decisions along the way, has lead it to where it’s at today, First Bank & Trust and FDDC can credit David Jacobson for representing the brand well as “One Tough Animal”.
